Level Crossing Removal Project – Package 1

CLIENT
Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP)
VALUE
$524 million
OVERVIEW
Package 1 — Burke, North, McKinnon and Centre Roads — involved lowering rail lines in four highly built-up urban areas while maintaining transport, business and community access throughout construction.
Key Role & Deliverables
  • Implemented what was, at the time, the largest road closure in the LXRP program, diverting more than 50,000 vehicles per day for nine days during major bridge construction while minimising impacts on the surrounding road network.

  • Actively managed the wider road network during a 37-day rail shutdown to enable railway lowering works at three level crossings simultaneously.

  • Enabled the bulk haulage movement of more than 150 trucks and trailers at a rate of one every 30 seconds for four continuous days, 24/7, to remove 500,000 tonnes of material without incident or congestion.
